About the League

"Shore Haven Jr Baseball is our little slice of Baseball Heaven"

Shore Haven Jr. Baseball's History

Shore Haven Jr. Baseball League was established in 1954 by the West Shore Association. The league’s founding fathers—Marshall Beott, Paul Saldibar, John Davison, Ted Roman, Elmer Bisonette, Richard Reising, Leslie Friend, John Cummings, Herb Small, and William Brennan—created it to give boys who couldn’t join West Haven Little League, due to limited teams, a chance to play. From the very beginning, the mission was simple: to give every child the opportunity to enjoy baseball, no matter their skill level. Over the years, as the sport’s popularity grew, so did Shore Haven—eventually welcoming both boys and girls to play baseball and softball.

Shore Haven Jr. Baseball's Philosophy

The philosophy of Shore Haven Jr. Baseball League is simple: every child should have fun. Fun comes from the pure joy of playing the game. Baseball is our National Pastime, and we believe that any child with an interest deserves the opportunity to learn and play.

Our league is not about being the biggest, the best, or reaching national tournaments. It’s about giving every child the chance to play, no matter their skill level. It’s about building relationships, encouraging teamwork, and fostering team spirit. Most importantly, we focus on teaching the fundamentals of the game and the true meaning of sportsmanship. Winning or losing isn’t what matters most—it’s how the game is played.

Shore Haven Jr. Baseball’s Commitment

Shore Haven Jr. Baseball was built on the time, effort, and dedication of volunteers who give countless hours each year—from January through September. Our staff and coaches volunteer because they believe every child is worth their time and commitment. They share the belief that every player should have fun, show respect, and understand that the true measure of the game isn’t about winning or losing, but about how you play the game.

In the movie Field of Dreams, James Earl Jones’ character Terence Mann says, 'Baseball is the one constant in life.' Each spring, Shore Haven Jr. Baseball becomes that very 'field of dreams' for the boys and girls who play. For everyone involved in our league, Shore Haven is that same constant—a tradition that brings joy, community, and the love of the game year after year.
